After the unsuccess and boycott she received for 'American Life', Madonna stopped taking risks, therefore ceased to be musically interesting and artistically relevant, maybe just too eager to please the mass.
This album is raw and edgy, and shows the singer at her most bare and intimate. It's less what she talks about than the way she does it. Mirwais blending of electronic bleeps and pop/folk guitars does marvels. Add strings by Michel Coulomier and a gospel choir and you have an album packed with great music. We would like to see her take risks in music again!
