Christopher Allen was trying to make it as a war reporter when, aged just 26, he was shot and killed on the frontline in South Sudan. But as news of his death began to spread, suspicion grew. Some claimed he was really there as a mercenary, a fighter. Others said he was a reckless freelancer, in over his head. And there was another question: was he killed on purpose, or was this another accident of war? From Tortoise and the team behind Sweet Bobby, Pig Iron is a dark adventure in war and journalism – and into what really happened to Christopher Allen.

But any commentary seems inappropriate. Suffice to say I listen to podcasts to put me back to sleep when I wake in the middle of the night. I haven’t slept for a week.

Gripping!
Personally I take the view of many of the journalists who said Chris was rash and inexperienced and therefore took one risk too many. I speak from the experience of working in many war zones as a humanitarian medical professional. I feel the depth and range of reporting makes this a very interesting and credible series however as you say you find the truth after 5 years especially in a place like South Sudan ( continues to be riven by civil war) is very doubtful.
