In this soul-stirring episode, Harinder dives deep into the concept of the ‘Great Big Black Hole’, that looming sense of restlessness we create when we avoid our underlying emotions. Harinder explores the creative (and often destructive) ways we distract ourselves, from retail therapy to ‘doom scrolling’, and how these shadows only grow larger the longer they are ignored. Through a touching observation of her two-year-old nephew, she illustrates that the capacity to sit with, process, and release heavy emotions is an innate human gift we often lose in adulthood. This episode is a gentle call to stop running, face the darkness, and find the wisdom that only comes through emotional accountability.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Ignoring underlying emotions creates a ‘shadow’ that grows legs and arms, following us as a persistent restlessness.
We often use ‘busy-ness’, consumption, or numbing behaviors to avoid the discomfort of a simple feeling.
Children possess an organic ability to process trauma and emotion physically and emotionally before they even have the language to describe it.
Developing a vocabulary for our emotions is a crucial step in ‘picking apart the muddle’ of internal distress.
True growth and ‘aliveness’ come from a willingness to be discombobulated and carried through the darkness to reach a state of neutrality.
BEST MOMENTS
"The more we choose not to deal with the underlying emotion, that restlessness grows."
"I didn't have language to describe what I was feeling, and therefore that emotion didn't exist for me."
"That shadow has grown arms and legs... it’s asking to be addressed."
"What is more ‘aliveness’ than being fully connected to our emotions? To give ourselves that grace, that time."
"Without the darkness, I can't be in my lightness. I can't have the wisdom without that darkness challenging me, tempering me, strengthening me."

HOST BIO
I am Harinder. Having worked closely with people from all over the world professionally in a corporate setting and since, carving out my own path in the past few years. I am an illustrator, artist and designer. I use intuitive creativity and my leadership skills for transformational coaching. I also create tools for personal and team development. Not new to podcasting, I have previously co-created a mini podcast series called How to Land Your Ideal Job.
With this podcast series, I wanted to share my life learnings particularly during the fallow period of life when my life’s direction has not been clear and I’ve had to dig deep below the various identities I had collected and assumed to reconnect with who I really am. Digging through the proverbial lead to share golden nuggets of insight. I hope to take people on mellow belly button contemplations that lead to questions for self inquiry and open up new imagined possibilities to new realities.
