I've read my share of 19th century novels, and this one ranks up near the top. One of the best European novels I've ever read. Every Character in this book has a long backstory, and by the end, I feel that one could write a biography on every major character.
Better than the movie!!!!!!!

Magnificent!

A must read for anyone and everyone. Absolutely amazing piece of literature. Dumas will make you feel happiness, misery, anger, surprise so many times that you will laugh out loud, cry, curse, gasp and truly enjoy this wonderful story of Edmond Dantes.

This book (unabridged) is long and wonderful. It gains momentum over the course of reading, and is very satisfying. I have read the whole enormous thing twice now. Suspend your disbelief, enter the world described, and enjoy the ride!

It is a classic....

But not necessarily a great classic. I see it more as a 200 year old Nora Roberts novel...

Fantastic!!

This is by far one of the best books I have ever read. As always, it is infinitely better than the movie and a true masterpiece. This is a story you can immerse yourself into and feel as though you are right there as Edmond endures tragedy, pursues revenge, and ultimately finds love. READ THIS BOOK!!!!!

It's a tough read at first because of the political background that is delivered through a host of several new characters. But once it gets rolling, it is hard to put down. Some great irony with the fathers and the main characters. Some memorable quotes and insightful looks at human frailty and weakness as well as human strengths. The movie barely scratches the surface of the book and it also changes the plot to accommodate a "Hollywood" finish. Well written and complex novel. Glad I read it!

Highly detailed, this novel seems to have more in common with a top o the line movie than it does a fiction novel.

Must Read!

Longest book I've ever read but definitely one of the best. What made the book so long is the background of characters, for Instance Bertuccio or Haidee, wherein as you go along you'll realize that it actually makes sense to include them. When Edmond Dantes became a count it was so interesting how he studied his villains that every move ended up as checkmate. This is a story about vengeance, dirty politics, love, and forgiveness.
Some of you might think this version is too long, but just to let you know every page is worth reading, don't settle for the abridged version or you'll miss out on all the great scoop!

Love this book!
